No Longer Our World

Brian woke up at the sound of crashing footsteps. His dad ran into the room screaming, “Get the guns! Get the guns!” He ran out of bed, grabbing his pistol, hunting knife, and M16. He found his dad doing the same in his room. They ran out of their shelter as it collapsed behind them. It was pitch black, and Brian couldn’t see a thing. Luckily he had his flashlight with him. He turned it on and looked around, but everything was silent, and there was nothing to be found.
They drove for miles and miles, until finally Brian stopped the car and popped the question, “What just happened?” “Buffaloes,” his dad, Jim, replied. “Buffaloes?” he asked. “Yes, they’ve spread to the Highlands. We have to get to some kind of shelter, because if dawn comes and we’re not hidden, the Flies will eat us alive.” As they kept walking, they heard neighing, and trampling hooves. All of a sudden, a huge line of horses appeared against the horizon, and started to gallop towards them. “Oh no, they’re going to trample us!” Brian’s dad yelled. “Shoot their heads, shoot their heads, we have to break the line!” They fired and fired but nothing happened. The horses got closer and closer, until finally one bullet pierced a horse, and it fell, breaking the whole line. “Hurry, they’ll be back up soon, get the truck going!” Brian’s dad yelled. They started it up and drove away.
“I just got off the phone with the president. They’ll be meeting us at a resupply point. They really need that virus; we have to kill all the animals. There are only about 1000 people left alive in the U.S., and that mob of horses we met a while back killed everyone at the nearby camp. We have to stop them before they spread. The animals’ strength and intelligence are growing every day, they have to be put down.” Jim was a top animal research scientist, one of the ones who developed the Drug, what made the animals go crazy. “Dad, you’re the only one left. What if you’re the only one who can figure out how to stop them?” Brian asked. His father replied, “Then I’ll develop the cure on my own. For right now, I have to find out if there are any other survivors from the research team.”
They met at a station in Wisconsin. A station abandoned long ago, surrounded by a large plateau. “This location is secure,” said the President. “There’s no way they can find us here.” “I sure hope so,” Brian answered. “If they were to surround us here, we’d be goners.” “I found a satellite outside,” Jim stated. “Can your men use it to get signals from around the country?” “Of course, they are Secret Service after all, the best of the best.” The President replied. “Jim, we need you to start working on a virus, in case you’re the only one left.” “Of course sir, just make sure we have some good defenses here.”
A few hours later, Brian ran into the room screaming for help, “Dad! Dad! We have a problem! I just looked outside, the Secret Service guys are dead! They have giant stingers in their backs!” As he said this, a loud buzzing sound surrounded the station. “Board up the windows! Seal the doors!” Jim yelled. “Brian, how many of us are there left?” “Uh, I’m not sure, let me go find the President.” As he ran into the President’s room, he found the President soaked in blood with a giant stinger in his back. “Dad, it’s just us! They’re all dead!” They ran back into their room, and covered the door and window with everything they had. Right when they thought they were safe, a buffalo smashed through their wall. “This is it,” Jim said. “With our death, the world is doomed.”
Suddenly, the buffalo fell on to its knees. They heard gunshots, rockets, and screams. They ran outside, and found the army had saved them! They fought off the bees, and regrouped inside. “Hello sir!” one of the army men started. “Great to see you’re alive! Where is the President? We have important news for him.” “He’s dead,” said Brian. “The bees got him, stinger in the back.” “Oh no, how did this happen? We got here as fast as we could…” “It’s ok,” Jim said. “There was nothing you could do.” “I guess that means you’re in charge Jim,” one of the army guys said. “You’re the only one now who can save us.”
The next day, they went to Pennsylvania. There was an animal research center there, and Jim could work with any scientists left. They would gather all their information, and if the animals showed up, take it with them. Then one day, as predicted, the animals attacked. “Jim, we need to go!” yelled one of the officers. “Brian, grab your things and get to the chopper!” They ran outside amidst shouting and various animal noises. “Oh man, this is a full-scale assault! I don’t think they’re going to let us leave easily!” Brian said with a hint of fear in his voice. “It’s ok son, as long as we get to the choppers they can’t get us.” They got to the landing pad, jumped in a chopper and took off. However, right as they started to take off, a horde of bees attacked their chopper. They started to smash it and rip it apart. “Dad we have to jump! Quick before it’s too late!” They jumped out and started running. They were able to make it into the nearby forest, when suddenly there appeared some hippos in front of them. They turned around, and they were behind them too. They were trapped, and the hippos were closing in.
Suddenly Brian woke up. "Oh, was it all a dream? Whew, what a strange thing, animals taking over the world!" He laughed and laughed, until he heard a loud buzzing sound outside his window.
